This week we have been doing lots with our names. We said goodbye to some of our school age friends and set three more butterflies free. Here are some of the pictures from this week.
Dylan had some help with his name.

Gracee and Alexa decorate their names with noodles, pompoms
and a variety of other fun stuff.

Jessie made her name in playdough.

Megan reads Where the Wild Things Are to an
attentive audience.

On Friday of last week we set our first two butterflies free. We celebrated with a snack that the butterflies would have liked.

Karen helped Haley, Jackson, Austin and Gracee set the
butterflies free.

Markus enjoys some "nectar".

Miss Spresser taught the kids a butterfly dance. The kids used scarves for wings and to make as cocoon.

Jackson makes a cocoon with the scarf.

Over the weekend we had three more butterflies come out of their chrysalises.

August 19. 2010

We finished our butterfly house just in time. Just a few hours after we put the crysalises in the house two swallowtail butterflies emerged. The kids were so excited!
We also played a game to see who could wrap up their ant the fastest. We have been learning how spiders catch their prey and wrap them up. It was a good fine motor activity.
Aaron, Miss Spresser, Haley, Erica and Kaeden race to see who can wrap up their ant the fastest.

Kaeden untwists his ant.

We also put our swallowtail crysalises in their new home. We put sugar water on fake flowers to feed the butterflies when they come out of their rest.

the butterflies.

We have been learning about bugs.
Aaron and Jackson found crickets.

Today we went on a bug hunt.

Austin looks as all the bugs.

We turned over a stepping stone and found a treasure.

We found tunnels dug by centipedes.

We also found ants carrying eggs.

Haley tries to find the eyes on a dragon fly.

Kids Port kids are learning lots about our 6 and 8 legged friends.

A couple of weeks ago, Kaeden brought in a plastic container with several colorful caterpillars on dill weed. We watched them as they ate and ate and then one by one turned into chrysalises.

Today we colored a new home for them.

We will put them in their new home and wait for them to come out and fly.

Today we got to make chocolate chip cookies. We each got to add some ingredients and help mix it up.

Alicia helped Kaeden measure and add the margarine.

Gracee added the vanilla with Miss Spressers
help.
Alexa found out eggs are messy!! Megan helped her get the egg in the bowl.

We added flour and brown sugar and baking soda and salt. And best of all, Chocolate Chips!!!!

We had to bake them in the oven.

We got to eat them for afternoon snack. They were good!
